Instytut Metalurgii i Inżynierii Materiałowej im. Aleksandra Krupkowskiego Polskiej Akademii Nauk w KrakowieThe Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences has 88 employees, including 40 researchers: 8 professors and postdoctoral fellows, 25 assistant professors and 5 assistants (as of March 2010). The institute is authorized to confer doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in metallurgy and materials engineering. Extensive international cooperation is carried out with France, Austria, Russia, Hungary, Ukraine, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Spain, Canada. The institute has a Research Laboratory Complex.
The Alexander Krupkovsky Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences houses laboratories dedicated to the development of molecular biology tools in materials engineering and biophysics in materials engineering. The IMIM PAN laboratory is equipped with a scanning confocal microscope with an incubation chamber. Thanks to cooperation with a French center, the National Polytechnique de Grenoble and the Jagiellonian University Medical College, original biophysical tests have been developed. These tests are designed to select materials on the basis of tests under flow-generated shear forces, i.e., simulating vascular flows, with particular emphasis on aortic flows.
