Sieć Badawcza Łukasiewicz - Krakowski Instytut TechnologicznyŁukasiewicz - Krakow Institute of Technology was established on April 1, 2020, as a result of the merger of two Krakow institutes that were part of the Łukasiewicz Research Network: the Foundry Institute and the Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies. The two institutes, with decades of tradition and experience, merging - created a strong entity capable of taking on new challenges in the key directions of development for the Łukasiewicz Research Network, namely health, smart and clean mobility, sustainable economy and energy, and digital transformation of strategic importance to the Polish economy.
Łukasiewicz - Krakow Institute of Technology is headquartered at 73 Zakopiańska St. The institute has 172 employees, including those from the research division and the support division. The Institute has specialized apparatus for conducting research on a laboratory scale, as well as on a semi-industrial scale. The structure includes four Centers: the Center for Foundry Technology, the Center for Advanced Manufacturing Technology, the Center for Materials Research and the Center for Sustainable Energy Sources, where the key team of the research division responsible for generating innovative solutions for industry is concentrated.
Recipients of solutions developed at the Institute are representatives of the foundry, tooling, aerospace, medical, energy and many other industries. The Institute also offers commercial services carried out mainly in the Laboratory Department (including the Accredited Laboratory), as well as by the Certification Department. The Institute also has a Production Department focusing on the design and manufacture of production lines for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, chemical and food industries.
Lukasiewicz - Kraków Institute of Technology conducts interdisciplinary research involving both conventional and modern technologies for manufacturing and materials processing. The institute develops 3D printing technologies based on metals, plastics and ceramics, and produces materials and tools for high-tech industries. Other research areas of the Institute include the design and manufacture of materials for electromobility, including fuel cells, the manufacture and processing of composite and nanocomposite materials for special applications, or the development of robotization and automation of processes in line with Industry 4.0.
Researchers at Lukasiewicz - Krakow Institute of Technology are also undertaking work in the design of material and technological solutions for the renewable energy industry, including offshore wind power and the domestic photovoltaic sector. In addition, the area of corrosion research will be expanded to include biocorrosion and corrosion in chloride environments.
