SOLARIS National Synchrotrotron Radiation CentreThe SOLARIS National Synchrotron Radiation Centre is Poland's most modern and largest multidisciplinary research tool. The Centre has been open since the 21st of September 2015 and it is the first synchrotron in Poland and the only one in East and Central Europe. Centre functions as a part of Jagiellonian University. Synchrotrons are unique devices because they produce extraordinary synchrotron light (synchrotron radiation). The unique properties of this type of light include its enormous intensity; it is millions of times brighter than the light that comes to Earth from the Sun. In addition, synchrotron radiation contains electromagnetic waves from the infrared spectrum, through visible and ultraviolet light up to the X-rays. Thanks to this, scientists can study various materials in many ways, both externally and internally. In this way, they learn how these materials are built, and what their chemical composition and electrical or magnetic properties are.
