ORLEN Południe Spółka AkcyjnaORLEN Południe S.A. is one of the key companies of the Polski Koncern Naftowy ORLEN Capital Group. It was created as part of the consolidation of PKN ORLEN's assets. It included the Trzebinia Refinery and the Jedlicze Oil Refinery. Consolidation activities also included Paraffin Factory Naftowax Sp. z o.o. and Company Fire Brigade Sp. z o.o., which were merged with Refinery Trzebinia S.A.
The business activities of ORLEN Południe S.A. are focused on the main product segments related to the production and sale of biofuels and biocomponents, paraffins and solvents. The offer is complemented by products obtained during crude oil processing and lubricating oil regeneration as the most modern and effective form of recycling. Consistently developed technologies, emphasis on the development of know-how and a series of optimization activities are the basis for the development of ORLEN Południe in the direction of biorefineries.
ORLEN Południe S.A. is also a modern fuel terminal located in Trzebinia, thanks to which the Company is the main logistic operator of ORLEN CG in southern Poland.
ORLEN Południe is actively involved in, among others, the National Chamber of Biofuels, the Scientific and Technical Association of Engineers and Technicians of the Oil and Gas Industry and the European Association of Candle Manufacturers. These are organizations that bring together significant players in the various branches of the chemical industry.
ORLEN Południe S.A., as the only company in the ORLEN Capital Group, is involved in the production of biocomponents used to achieve the National Indicative Target (the minimum share of biofuels and biocomponents, expressed as an energy percentage, in the total volume of fuels in Poland)At the beginning of November 2021. ORLEN Południe S.A. launches production of innovative propylene glycol.Project #1
Development of innovative technology for purification of waste glycerin, animal origin and UCO type to distilled quality glycerin.
The subject of the project is the development of an innovative in the world process for purification of glycerin of vegetable, animal, UCO and mixed origin to distilled quality (purity >99.7%). The project will result in both a process innovation on a global scale (innovative glycerin purification technology) and a product innovation (glycerin of animal and UCO origin, purified to distilled quality, unique on a global scale).
The goal of the project is for the developed technology to reach the IX level of technological readiness and to implement the results of the research upon completion of the R&D project. The goal of the project will be achieved by providing all necessary human, technical and financial resources for the project. The effect of the project will be the achievement of readiness for implementation and the commercialization of the results by starting the purification and sale of glycerin.
The results of the project will be implemented in the form of a product innovation - the world's first glycerin of animal origin and UCO, purified to distilled quality. This will allow the development of markets for the recipients of the results and meet the Applicant's needs related to the management of waste of specific composition (contamination), which is generated in large quantities.
The project plans to cooperate with a subcontractor - a renowned scientific unit from the Małopolska province - the Oil and Gas Institute.
Project #2
Development of biotechnological conversion of organic raw materials to lactic acid using microorganisms.
The subject of the project is research and development work on the development of a globally and nationally innovative industrial method of producing lactic acid (LA -lactic acid) from raw materials of organic origin, using microorganisms.
The aim of the project is for the developed technology to reach the IX level of technological readiness and to implement the results of the research upon completion of the R&D project.
Currently, the concept and future application of the technology have been defined. The project objective will be achieved through the industrial research and development work planned in the project. The project is being implemented in three stages of work.
The result of the project will be the implementation of the first installation in Poland operating on the basis of the world's innovative technology for LA production using waste from the agro-food and biorefining industries. Currently, there is no technology in the world for converting glycerin, as a waste from biodiesel production, into lactic acid. In addition, there is no installation in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe to produce LA on a full technical scale. Lactic acid is an essential raw material for the agricultural, food, pharmaceutical and other industries. In addition, it plays a key role in the production of the most popular fully biodegradable polymer, polylactide (PLA).
