IRHIS - Interoperable Remote Health Innovation Brought to Scale

IRHIS aims to accelerate the upscale of remote health innovations and innovators offering AI-powered, cutting-edge sensor solutions, wearable devices, and remote monitoring solutions across three critical EU remote care areas: musculoskeletal rehabilitation, neurological disorder treatment, and critical patient conditions. By leveraging Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning, IRHIS will personalise clinical paths and improve patient outcomes while ensuring regulatory compliance and cross-device interoperability.

Problem

IRHIS aims to address the lack of accessible, interoperable, and commercially scalable remote healthcare solutions, particularly in Europe’s less-developed regions.

Europe’s healthcare systems face growing pressure from ageing populations, chronic diseases, workforce shortages and rising costs. At the same time, people in rural and less developed regions often have poorer access to specialised care. Remote monitoring could help by enabling continuous, home-based, and more personalised care, but current solutions remain fragmented and insufficiently integrated into healthcare systems.

Objective and Approach

Objective: IRHIS aims to accelerate the market uptake of interoperable, AI-enabled remote healthcare solutions, improving access to personalised care while strengthening digital-health SMEs and innovation ecosystems in less developed European regions.

Approach: The project will integrate and validate eight advanced technologies through three interregional DemoScale Labs focused on musculoskeletal rehabilitation, neurological care and critical patient monitoring. More than 1,000 patients will support large-scale testing, AI development, interoperability validation and preparation of the solutions for commercial deployment.

Results and Values

IRHIS will deliver validated and interoperable remote-care solutions for musculoskeletal rehabilitation, neurological treatment and critical-patient monitoring. By advancing eight technologies toward market readiness, generating large-scale clinical data and building cross-regional investment and replication partnerships, the project will improve access to personalised care, support earlier intervention and strengthen the competitiveness of European digital-health SMEs.
